Commercial Fleets

Insights on urban and roadside environments, enabling fleet operators to make data-driven decisions and optimize their operations.

Cities are changing all the time. Road layouts are updated, streets are closed and roadworks create reduced traffic flows. This state of flux is permanent - and presents immense challenges for commercial fleets. Delivery services are more costly and less efficient. Buses are delayed. Emergency vehicles’ race against time is made harder than it needs to be. According to some taxi fleet analysis, inaccurate traffic and roadside data causes thousands of tonnes of additional CO2 emissions each year. For these taxis, poor data also causes hundreds of thousands of hours in delays, meaning that they struggle to get their customers to where they need to be.

Meanwhile, advances in technology have enabled new mobility services to be developed. There has been an explosion of offerings ranging from just-in-time doorstep delivery to e-scooter rental. This has put an extra layer of pressure on those more traditional fleet operators. They need to adapt to the new technological reality; to make sure that their services are accessible and efficient in order to avoid being left behind.

Accurate, up-to-date maps are a fundamental component of any fleet management system. When combined with routing algorithms, they create a means for fleets to chart the most efficient course through the urban environment. But maps are only as good as the data from which they are created. To be effective, routing algorithms must be built upon recent, reliable and relevant data.

Businesses are using real-time data from 3DAI™ City to improve their services.

3DAI™ City is a data-capturing system that introduces a new approach to city and roadside monitoring. The system enables real-time tracking and mapping of urban environments and road networks without the use of special vehicles or equipment. All that is needed is a smartphone. Mobile devices equipped with Univrses’ software are being deployed onto vehicles operating in the city. The sensor processing technology in 3DAI™ City is used to monitor the vehicles (i.e. taxis, buses or waste management vehicles) and the environment in which they are operating.

The data is processed and presented to the fleet manager on a web-based dashboard. Data from the fleet can be augmented with other sources of data to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the vehicles and the environment in which they operate. The client can deploy the fleet, prioritize actions and make better decisions - all because better data is available.
